The equation of the line through (2,3) which makes equal non-zero intercepts on the coordinate axes is

Single correct option

The equation of the line through (2,3)(2,3) which makes equal non-zero intercepts on the coordinate axes is
  1. A. 3x+2y=123x+2y=12
  2. B. x−y=−1x-y=-1
  3. C. x+y=6x+y=6
  4. D. x+y=5x+y=5
Show answer and solution

Answer: (D) x+y=5x+y=5

Equal intercepts means the line is x/a+y/a=1x/a+y/a=1, i.e. x+y=ax+y=a. Passing through (2,3)(2,3) gives a=5a=5. The line 3x+2y=123x+2y=12 passes through (2,3)(2,3) but its intercepts are 44 and 66, which are unequal.
